[discuss] Failure of the Survey

I think it would be useful to use the results and commentary to advance discussions on the list. But this should be for internal purposes only.

I am opposed to using the results outside of this group in any way. They are not valid, especially since it appears that a number of list participants who felt the least aligned with the bias of the survey, or the most concerned with the premise, chose not to participate in the survey.

Dear Adiel,

If 150 people opted in to the survey then I certainly hope that those efforts will not have been for nothing.

I hope that the responses can be collated and synthesised in some way, and sent to NETmundial as a submission which is representative not of /1net, but rather as an attempt to represent the views of 150 /1net participants who chose to respond. In the time available I think this must be submitted in the name(s) of those who undertook the survey, with a disclaimer that their interpretation is not formally representative (except in terms of raw numerical analysis). Also in the interest of transparency I suggest that the raw data be published and submitted at the same time (with name and email id removed, along with any other identifying data which may have been entered).

This is a nontrivial exercise but I hope that someone is generous enough with their time to make the effort. If not, then so be it; I cannot spend this time myself and don't demand that others should work for nothing.

Thanks for your own efforts on this initiative.

Paul.

I don't think the intention was to impose the content to anyone on the list. But mistakes and missteps happen. We need to learn from them to improve but we must move on. I can tell you that there won't be any submission to NETMundial from /1Net anymore and the survey will not serve any similar purpose either. A process for efficiently engage the wider list on activities like this and the interaction with the SC should be developed (with the input off all) and implement. However I will suggest that the comments received (from those nevertheless who took their time to fill in the survey) be used to advance some of the discussions on this list. There are already more than 150 people who took it (from information I have), with some interesting contributions and views. If there are other idea on how to use what will be collected, please share. Sorry for the failure of this particular process and please let close the discussion about it for now and move on to discuss the important matters in hand.
