indirect addressing means, that the address is not a directly reference 
to the object. It is a refrence to the reference of the object,

The IP-numbers have nothing to do (or only few) with the address as a 
geografical position of the host, to them the packet want to go. We have 
some number areas, that are geografical oriented. Therefore "or only few".

The terms direct and indirect addressing comes from the addressing modes 
from the CPU's, the Central Processing Units, the core of all computers.
