The subject line of this email shows one of the major
downsides of the login-required forum-style of interaction.
Generally I simply delete anything with the word "digest"
in its subject, because generally it's indigestible.

This stuff has never worked properly from a sociological point
of view, and that goes back to the pre-Internet, pre-Web days
when it was called CSCW (computer-supported collaborative work).

Nobody argues that email lists are perfect either, of course.
But fora are significantly less perfect.
