On another note, I guess like many of you, FOMO has gotten the best of me. Still here!
I’d be all too happy to see renewed energy and activity on here, if the circumstances warrant same.

Patrick

Good afternoon; congratulations!  I think 2019 could see this list come back into its own; think there are a growing number of issues worth discussing…

Best

Hi everyone. I have a proud accomplishment to announce: I'm happy to be the first to welcome everyone to the 1net.org [1net.org] listserv discussion of 2019. Not that there will be much more excitement than 2018.  I'm frankly not sanguine that there's going to be a breakout of discussion, but I just-can't-remove-myself-from-the-list.  Who has two thumbs and fomo?  This guy here. :)

For nostalgic benefit, here's the first email that I have in my inbox from 1net.org [1net.org].

Happy 2019 to fellow 1net lurkers. :)

Patrick

Indeed it is.

I am intrigued by Fadi's combination of accountability mechanisms with the duty of stewardship - the latter is far broader with the former, in my opinion.

I am also surprised by the presentation of this as a "consultation" process. The USG press release asks ICANN to "convene global stakeholders to develop a proposal to transition the current role played by NTIA in the coordination of the Internet's domain name system."

To arrogate the leadership of that to ICANN such that it consults the community rather than doing what is asked seems to me to pose risks both to ICANN itself, and to the prospects of a successful transition plan actually being developed.

Let's see how this panel proceeds..
