Any idea why they go the CGN route since they are spending dollars anyway? Does it have anything to do with awareness and literacy? I doubt it does. I think it's because clients are still being served and their service needs meet. If things that requires more IPs start to emerge, client demands will change and ISPs will have to follow suit. Also when basic services like vpn starts breaking on CGNs then the clients demands will move the ISPs. A wise ISP will start preparing now to serve the clients of those ISPs running CGN in future.<br>
During all this process, noting breaks on the internet and no interference of RIR or ICANN is required.</p>
<p dir="ltr">So while they continue awareness, if they must influence those processes then they should fund R&D that creates more native(public) IP needs and non-NAT friendly services.</p>
