One of the good things about mailing lists is it allows participants to
time-shift their contributions and not be required to respond in "real
time".

I'm not sure this spirit is quite upheld by shutting down a thread on a
Sunday afternoon that only started on Friday morning.

The "limitation" proposal was only suggested as a way to get rid of
vexatious multiple postings in extreme circumstances - it was never an
idea to reduce the throughput in general. If limitation is not seen as
the answer to trolls, then the steering committee will perhaps have to
come up with an alternative solution (even assuming the list members
require there to be a solution).
