[discuss] Failure of the Survey

Dear Paul, an interesting idea, but I would not want my comments to be forwarded onto any third party in any identifiable way, and I'm not really that comfortable with them being used in aggregate, either. I am also concerned about how this would be presented to anyone else. I think the text introducing the responses, however they are aggregated, would have to be agreed by at least those whose contributions are involved, and if it is to bear the /1net moniker, in some way by /1net.

Overall, I would have to say my personal view is that however well-meaning this exercise was, it was very flawed in implementation on many levels, and trying to repackage it now is probably a less useful idea than simply making it a learning experience and moving on.

In the time available I think this must be submitted in the name(s) of those who undertook the survey, with a disclaimer that their interpretation is not formally representative (except in terms of raw numerical analysis). Also in the interest of transparency I suggest that the raw data be published and submitted at the same time (with name and email id removed, along with any other identifying data which may have been entered).

I don't think the intention was to impose the content to anyone on the list. But mistakes and missteps happen. We need to learn from them to improve but we must move on. I can tell you that there won't be any submission to NETMundial from /1Net anymore and the survey will not serve any similar purpose either. A process for efficiently engage the wider list on activities like this and the interaction with the SC should be developed (with the input off all) and implement. However I will suggest that the comments received (from those nevertheless who took their time to fill in the survey) be used to advance some of the discussions on this list. There are already more than 150 people who took it (from information I have), with some interesting contributions and views. If there are other idea on how to use what will be collected, please share. Sorry for the failure of this particular process and please let close the discussion about it for now and move on to discuss the important matters in hand.
