Good afternoon

Great detective work!  I remember this list fondly; was a real mixture of interesting issues and complete rubbish (as Greg has noted).  I would be happy to contribute to a non-aligned list but on otherwise no great loss if dies; though should indeed be archived.

Best

Marilyn,

I see that you are on the 1net Coordination Committee at http://www.1net.org/coordination-committee[1net.org]. Aside from this email list, is 1net currently active in any fashion? It seems to me that if it is, this list should follow the lead of 1net. And if it isn't, the same logic applies....

On the other hand, an internet policy mail list that is untethered to any active organization (I* or otherwise) and for which no membership is required could have value, -precisely for that independence. But it would still need a raison d'etre beyond just that characteristic to be meaningful. It would need traffic, which in turn means that a purpose beyond that of any other list would need to be found.

I will say that when this list was active, it was a great forum/sandbox/agora for exchanging and honing ideas, and the occasional snark-fest. But perhaps it was the surrounding activity that made it viable. Like an old World's Fair site, if the structures cease to be active, can't be repurposed and don't merit preservation for aesthetic value, they end up being torn down.

Or, should we repurpose this list? And make it meaningful again?

Dear Peter,

As with any retirement, I wonder about two questions:

1. should this mailing list be archived? Is it a piece of Internet history?
2. is the 1net.org[1net.org] domain & web site going to be archived too, beyond archive.org[archive.org] ?

Warmest regards,

Olivier

Looks like it’s time to give this list a rest. Other than faked mails with spam where all of us know they would never ever come from Patrik there seems to be no relevant traffic left here on the list. Unless some real human being tells me there is a value to remain on this list, I’ll be out in a few days.

Cheers

Peter
